SSDT
The West Country presence will be strong in the Scottish Highlands this May as a good contingent of ACU Western riders and regular visitors head north for the Pre65 Scottish Two Day Trial and the legendary Scottish Six Days Trial.
Ryan Eamer and Bretton King are riding both events, with Craig Talbot, Simon and Matthew Welch, Merv Powell, Ian Thompson, Mike Ellis and Mick Thompson all on the start ramp this Friday for the Pre65 in Kinlochleven. Bretton's son Will, who last rode the SSDT with his dad in 2015 is back for more. An Army Reservist, has been selected for the Army Team having worked in a support capacity last year.
Ryan last rode both in 2024 and having just ridden the Pre65 last year, is doubling up again, as will Bretton who missed out in the ballot for both events earlier this year. He rode his first SSDT in 1987, and was expecting to observe but got a call two weeks ago offering him a start in Fort William. Having accepted a reserve spot in the Pre65 five weeks ago, he weighed it up and went for it. Fortunately he and Will are only 14 minutes apart. He says he's "an idiot" for taking both on but he has Will as chaperone for SSDT.
Craig is mounted again on the ex-Tony Davis BSA B40, Simon on the Royal Enfield twin, Matthew the imposing RE 500 single and Merv his AJS 500 once again. We'll update you on Bretton's and Mick's Pre65 steeds later. There is likely to be some serious competition for the title of the centre's best performer in the Pre65! They are supported by a cast of unsung heroes of family and friends behind the scenes, and observers too - Andy Ridley and Jeremy Cross will be out on the moors with their boards on the SSDT, and Georgie Mason, Doug Nolan and Peter Collins will be officiating on the Pre65.
Keep up to date with the results on the Official SSDT site with Live Results links, Routes etc. (For those, like me, not psychic, try clicking on the rider's number to see their full section scores.). There is also some video from 2 Wheels Offroad for both 2 Day P65 and 6 Day.
Day 1 - A good start as all three are back in at end of day. OK, all are in triple digits but the amazing thing is, how close they are on marks? That is spooky!
Day 2 - Another good day really as all three are back in at end of day.
Day 3 - Yet another good day, all three back and half way through for Will but Dad and Ryan are on day 5, of course.
Day 4 - It has not gone un-noticed that Bretton has been our top performer for the last 2 days!
Day 5 - The scores appear to show our two Scottish 8 day riders feeling the strain as Will is our top performer.
Day 6 - They've done it. One 6 Day'er and Two 8 day'ers complete an epic ride. Congratulations

And Day 2 too.
The centre has 1 more contender thanks to Mike Ellis getting a last minute drop-out's place.
The following comes from the grapevine as I don't have access to Facebook. (And can't see any official ones yet.) All our riders seem to have finished intact though the same can't be said for the bikes.
