Adult winners of the ACU Western Trials Championship joined the Youth award winners and all the YDS participants, YDS coaches and ACU Western officials at St Briavels Pavilion to mark the end of another successful year for the championship and the YDS.

ACU Western Chairman Tony Noel presented the awards, following a main championship of 8 rounds run by 6 clubs, and a youth championship of 5 rounds run by 4 clubs. The Centre is very grateful to the clubs for supporting the championship, and is looking forward to the 2025 Championship

Congratulations to all the winners, who are named on the Championship 2024 page, and thank you to all the riders who have supported the series. Biggest thanks must go to the landowners and all the volunteers who make the events and the series happen - the observers, the section plotters, the entry and results secretaries, and Trials Recorder John Luff who maintains the standings with ACU Western Gazette Web Admin Colin Jones.

Some 41 youngsters signed up for the final YDS session of 2024, which means 60 youth riders in total had been coached by the squad this year. Coaches Gary Jenkins, Victoria Payne, Neil Jones, Dan Tuley, Ben and Dean Lovelace have passed on their experience at YDS sessions before, and on Saturday they were joined by new YDS coach Tyler Rendall who the YDS are looking forward to seeing again soon. All ACU-licenced coaches, they coached groups according to ability and age. The day's coaching ended with a training session with the trainers taking a team of 6 through 7 sections with best 3 scores to count. It was just for fun but helped the participants learn how to look at and ride marked out sections. With the best 4 scores to count, it was a great success and Alicia Robinson's team took victory.

The event was a particularly special occasion for the Hassall family, with dad Lee winning the main championship, and daughters Molly and Daisy the Youth D and E championships. All the names of all the winners, going back to 1979 are on the ACU Western Honours Board.

The presentation ended with a special moment for the man who started the YDS in 2012 with the ACU Western's full backing. The coaches and squad and ACU Western sponsors BVM Moto presented YDS Co-ordinator Simon Welch with a new pair of Gaerne trials boots which Simon will be able to get muddy at the West Glos Julian Bishop Boxing Day Trial.
