More than 60 riders welcomed in the new year with an outing at Cheltenham Home Guard MCC's annual curtain raiser. Held at Chedworth in typical Cotswold conditions, Tim Wheeler and Martyn Wilmore duked it out for victory on the clubman route over three laps of 12 sections on Sunday, January 4.

Wilmore, aboard a lightweight Cotswold special, left no room for error from his Scorpa-mounted mate by not dropping a mark all day. Wheeler was playing catch-up after a one mark loss on Chris Harvey's section one on the first lap. Then a five on the same section on the last lap took the pressure of Wilmore.

Alan Taylor, Steve Clark and Lee Beaman all kept their scores in single figures on seven, eight and nine respectively. Section one was were they lost most of their marks.

Mark Kenyon-Bell was a clear winner in the clubman/sportsman class, while the sportsman class saw three riders on clean. Terry Cole, Graham Lavis and Billy Andrews shared top spot, ahead of Austen Kear, who put his foot down once in the whole trial.
