About the Valder Trial and Previous winners.
Club members from across ACU Western came together to resurrect a trial in memory of a great servant to motorcycle sport.
The combined efforts of most of the clubs in the centre attracted around 81 starters to the edge of the Cotswold escarpment just outside Gloucester for the Brian Valder trial. While all other events in ACU Western are organised by individual clubs, for this event the efforts of all are pooled to create a fitting trial in memory of a former rider and latterly organiser in the old Western and South Midland Centres, who passed away in 2017.
Three laps of 14 sections gave no one an easy day out in the Expert class, with section 3 proving just about possible as only winner Simon Welch, and Rob Warner escaped from a gripless climb and turn for anything less than a five.
Out-of-centre visitors Ben Lovelace, Lee Hassall, James Grist and Warner were within just a handful of marks of each other, but Welch's consistent low scoring on each lap ensured they wouldn't get within touching distance.Clubman Expert winner Richard Jenkins was the only rider to keep his lap scores in single figures, which meant he could not be caught, and in the Clubman class Martyn Wilmore edged his friend and rival Tim Wheeler by a mark.
Best Clubman lap of the day belonged to Ashley Greedy who managed lap 2 for 1 mark lost. The only rider to keep his feet up all day was Sportsman Plus winner Adrian Steele.
The centre decided to honour Brian's dedication to motorcycle sport by running the first event in his name in 2018. Club members responded by turning out to clear and mark out sections, and ACU Western Youth Development Squad members pitched in, learning valuable skills which will stand the sport in good stead for generations to come.
The charities chosen for all funds raised from the event with catering from Brian's family are the ACU Benevolent Fund and the Air Ambulance. Thanks to the observers who turned out in cold weather, and the landowner for making the event possible.
